Nintendo hat seine Archive durchwühlt und das offizielle Handbuch zu Star Fox 2, inklusive einer Handlungszusammenfassung und zahlreichen Design-Dokumenten veröffentlicht. Obwohl das Spiel erst am 29. September auf dem SNES Mini erscheint, kann man sich das Handbuch schon jetzt online durchlesen und erfährt so nicht nur über die Hintergründe der Handlung von Star Fox 2, sondern kann sich auch über die Spielmechaniken informieren.
Zusätzlich hat Nintendo eine PDF mit frühen Design-Konzepten veröffentlicht. Auch wenn diese auf japanisch sind, kann man allein den enthaltenen Skizzen viele interessante Informationen über die Entwicklung des Spiels entnehmen. In einer weiteren PDF sind hingegen Skizzen allein aus dem Design-Prozess des Arwing enthalten. Nachfolgend findet ihr außerdem die englische Hintergrundgeschichte:
The battle for the galaxy is over. The evil emperor Andross’s plans to seize control of the once-great Lylat system have been thwarted by the army of Corneria – thanks in no small part to the brave deeds of elite fighter squadron Star Fox. Their mission accomplished, Fox McCloud and his team depart once more for the deep expanses of space, sent off by the cheers and adoration of Corneria’s grateful inhabitants.
However…
Andross has survived. Consumed with desire for revenge, he plots an invasion even more terrible than the last. The people of Lylat cannot know it, but the peace they are enjoying is doomed to be short-lived. And sure enough, one fateful day, the forces of Andross attack once again.
Taken completely by surprise, the planets of the Lylat system fall one by one to Andross’s advancing army. Corneria, at the hub of the galaxy, now lies exposed and within the clutches of the maniacal emperor!

Star Fox 2 genießt bei Nintendo-Fans Kult-Status. Das Spiel wurde seinerzeit für das Super Nintendo entwickelt und auch fertiggestellt. Allerdings war das Super Nintendo in direkter Konkurrenz zur damals aufkommenden PlayStation stark veraltet. Nintendo entschied sich daher dagegen Star Fox 2 zu veröffentlichen, sondern konzentrierte sich stattdessen auf die Nintendo 64. Mehr als 20 Jahre später veröffentlicht Nintendo das Spiel nun erstmalig als Teil des Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
Das SNES Mini erscheint am 29. September und enthält 22 klassische Super Nintendo-Spiele und wird mit zwei Controllern ausgeliefert.
