The director of Final Fantasy VII Revelation has commented on one of the biggest criticisms of its predecessor, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
The second part of the remake trilogy was widely praised by fans and critics but also sparked debates. In particular, the pacing and the large number of mini-games were repeatedly criticized. Those hoping Square Enix would reduce the amount of mini-games in the third installment may be disappointed.
In an interview with VideoGamesChronicle, director Naoki Hamaguchi explained that the third part, Final Fantasy VII Revelation will feature at least as many mini-games, if not more, than Rebirth. The reason lies in the desire to stick to the original vision for the series and not bend too much to fan feedback.
If the team tried to change everything fans were not completely satisfied with, the result would be a game that "no longer has a true character."
“What I can say for Revelation is that it will feature as many mini-games as it did in Rebirth, if not more. I did not want to make a cut on that aspect. I didn’t want to reduce the number of mini-games. We’ll see how it turns out in terms of the fan feedback, but I will take that responsibility, depending on what happens. That was my decision.”
Hamaguchi confirmed that some mini-games can be skipped. Thus, Square Enix partly responds to fan feedback without losing sight of the original vision for the series.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation was officially announced at the Summer Game Fest and is scheduled for release in spring 2027. The third part concludes the remake trilogy, which began with Final Fantasy VII Remake and continued with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth The third part will be released simultaneously on all platforms for the first time.
